What is NLP?

NLP is the Art and Science of excellence, created in the 1970's by Dr Richard Bandler and John Grinder at The University of California. Dr Bandler was a student of psychology and Grinder was an assistant Linguistics professor, together they studied people who achieved great results including Virginia Satir, Family Therapist. Milton Erikson, Hypnotherapist and Gregory Bateson who created Cybernetics. They created a system whereby the excellence of others could be modelled in the fields of education, business and personal change.

NEURO- LINGUISTIC- PROGRAMMING

Neuro relates to the human nervous system, the brain and the five senses, linguistic refers to the verbal and non-verbal information we communicate with and programming relates to the ability to structure our neurological and linguistic systems to achieve desired results.

NLP brings about self-development and change. First you can use it to work on yourself to become the person you really want to be and can be. Also, you can work on yourself so that you can effectively help others.

One of the basic skills of NLP is being clear about what you want and being able to elicit from others what they want. NLP is based around always thinking of outcomes in every situation, so you are always working in a purposeful way. An outcome is what you want; and NLP identifys the tasks you need to undertake so that you can achieve exactly that.

Outcome thinking has three basic elements;

Present situation - Where you are now.

Desired situation - Where you want to be.

Strategy - How to get from one to the other, using the resources you have or creating new ones.

Everyone has all the resources they need to change, or the ability to create them. Many people think that they do not have these resources, however we have all had the experience of long-forgotten events popping into our minds, triggered by some stray thought, that reminds us of our inner abilities. These unconscious resources can be uncovered by hypnotherapy and trance.

NLP works with the unconscious in the belief that it has all the experiences that we need to succeed.

Using the state of trance we can remember the past and also imagine the future. We can mentally rehearse how we want the future to be.

NLP explores how your thoughts are affected by the words that you use, which lead to the actions you take. When the words and behaviours that we use do not serve us in a way that is beneficial, it is time to change them.

IN NLP terms 'If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got!'.

If you are not who and where you want to be, it could be time for a change!
